I listened to a story on NPR this week that raised one very serious question: how do you preserve history in space?
We all know the saying… “The Mountains are calling, and I must go.” But what about all those times that you can’t? There’s a reason John Muir didn’t say, “the Mountains are calling and I…don’t have enough vacation days to get there, sorry, maybe next month.” The guy dedicated his life to protecting the mountains. Going to the mountains was like going into the office. But unless you’re living the John Muir life, you probably aren’t able to just go. So what do you do?
History comes alive when you’re traveling. You have the opportunity to walk in the same footsteps as figures from the past, to see what they saw, and connect with them on a whole new level. Learning about the history of your next travel destination is so important to the overall experience. Do NOT leave home without learning more! That’s why in 2019, I’m vowing to read more about the destinations we’re visiting before we ever step foot in the car or terminal.
