Took a break from eagle watching in Alton at Old Bakery Beer Co. Had a couple of very delicious beers and one of the most amazing (meatless) burgers I've had in a long, long time. But how can you go wrong with onion jam, am I right? . . Cool space, tons of things to wander around and look at. We've been looking for an excuse to make it out to visit their brewery for a while now and they did not disappoint! Highly recommended. . . .

So I guess there won't be snow in St. Louis after all. Good thing it's still horribly, terribly cold. This big ol' snow-chomping nut is the only reason I'll be leaving the house all weekend. If it weren't for her dragging me out into the miserable cold to dig up walnuts, I would be snuggled up inside with slippers, a blanket, and some warm, freshly-brewed coffee all weekend long. . Remind me again why I love dogs? 😉❤

First trip of 2019 is planned and coming up very soon! Here's a hint to help you guess where we are going. . .

Crafted up this beer cocktail inspired by our trip to Boston, modified from a recipe by @saveurmag. Recipe is below. Buy a whole case of '76, because one will not be enough. . . Muddle 4 or 5 sage leaves in a shaker Pour in 2.5oz Apple Cider and 1oz Lemon juice, and give it a quick swirl for good measure. . Add in 1.5oz Black Pepper Simple Syrup. . Fill shaker with ice, shake it like a mad woman. . Pour into a glass over ice, fill glass the rest of the way with Sam '76. . . Black pepper simple: 1 cup sugar, 1 cup water, 2tbsp peppercorn. Heat until it starts to boil, then shut that heat off and let the peppercorn steep. Strain once cooled. . It's like a champagne cocktail, but with beer. And everyone knows everything is better with beer.

This weekend felt like the calm before the storm. The last weekend with no plans and no agenda before 2019 blasts off and suddenly turns into 2020 before I even blink an eye. This weekend was filled with slow living. With friends and drinks and exploring nature. Looking forward to more weekends like these, hopefully I'll see another one before March. . .
